Google has surprisingly extended support for its Google Chrome browser for Windows 7 by 6 months until January 15, 2022 for companies. Based on the feedback from business customers and an assessment of the current situation, the company corrects the previously planned support end of the browser.
Support until (at least) January 15, 2022
Google emphasized that the extension should apply until “at least” January 15, 2022 and that the company will continue to evaluate the framework conditions to which its corporate customers are exposed.
Meanwhile, the Alphabet subsidiary did not rule out further extensions of support for Google Chrome under Windows 7 in the business environment beyond January 15, 2022.
Based on the assessment of the current situation and based on the feedback from our valued business customers, Google is expanding its support for Windows 7 until at least January 15, 2022.
According to Google, around 21 percent of its business customers are currently still using Windows 7 and are still in the middle of migrating to Windows 10. By extending the support, the company would like to give its partners planning security.
With this expansion of support, businesses that are still upgrading can be assured that their users will stay on Windows 7 and continue to enjoy the security and productivity benefits of Chrome.
