The Digital Foundry collective analyzed DiRT 5 on nextgen consoles to understand how Codemasters arcade racing fares on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S.
Accompanied by the usual graphical comparison, the analysis by DF’s expert team highlights the differences in performance between the new platforms from Sony and Microsoft. Based on the tests carried out by the “techno-gaming” journalists linked to Eurogamer.net, the crossgen production signed by Codemasters offers a similar gaming and visual experience on PS5 and Xbox Series X in 60Hz mode, but with a slight advantage of the Sony machine in terms of both dynamic resolution scaling speed that of framerate.
However, it is by activating the 120Hz mode that the performance gap between the two systems widens in favor, once again, of the Sony console. The significant difference between the versioni a 120fps di DiRT 5 on PS5 and Xbox Series X, according to the guys at Digital Foundry, it would seem to be attributable to some kind of bug that does not allow the Microsoft nextgen console to fully exploit its computational power to dynamically scale the graphic detail to such a high framerate. This difference could also have been the greater optimization possible with the current tools available on the PS5 devkits, as suggested by the recent analysis of Digital Foundry on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition.
As for the Xbox Series S version of DiRT 5, from the analysis of Digital Foundry emerges the difficulty of the economic console of the Redmond house in managing the 120Hz mode. By activating this option, in fact, the title comes renderizzato a 600p. Definitely more “pleasant”, and in line with what is offered by the other nextgen consoles (but at a lower resolution), is the graphic experience obtainable on TV Full-HD in the other modes that lock the framerate at 60fps.
