The VG Tech channel has uncovered a rather interesting thing concerning God of War. Sony Santa Monica’s masterpiece, in fact, on PS5 is able to turn in 4K and 60fps, but only from disk. The reason is obvious: some post-launch patches limited the 4K experience to 30 frames per second and therefore only those who have the game on Blu-ray can refuse to install updates and enjoy the game to its fullest potential. .
This is the same problem that was encountered with The Last Guardian a few days ago. In other words, the two games, in their basic version, came out with the 4K checkerboarded frame rate unlocked. One thing that allows the PlayStation 5 to flex the muscles and manage the two masterpieces in 4K and 60 frames almost always stable.
In fact, in the weeks following the release, Sony released some patch which, in addition to fixing several problems and bugs of the games, have gone to limit the frame rate in 4K to 30fps. Most likely the initial intent was to improve the stability of the code on PS4 Pro, but now that same decision is going to severely limit the performance of the two games on PS5, a console able to manage them without too many problems even at 60 fps. As demonstrated by the vanilla version available on the discs.
For this reason some gamers are now asking Sony to to update God of War (and The Last Guardian) so you can choose to play with the frame rate unlocked on PS5 even with all the latest updates.
