Trump will lose access to the official presidential account from Joe Biden’s takeover. Something is also changing in his private account.
Even if Trump does not see his election defeat, he will lose access to the President’s official Twitter accounts in January. Twitter will hand over the @POTUS account to Joe Biden on the day Joe Biden is sworn in, a spokesman told Politico.
The same goes for the Vice President, First Lady and White House accounts. Donald Trump’s approval is not necessary for this.
Trump’s tweets are archived
“Twitter is actively preparing to support the handover of the official Twitter accounts of the White House on January 20,” a spokesman told Politco. As in 2017, this should take place in cooperation with the National Archives and Records Administration.
The Trump and Biden teams would not have to exchange any information. All tweets from previous accounts would be archived and the number of tweets set to zero. The followers remain, however.
Trump loses special status
Nonetheless, Trump can still use his private @realDonaldTrump account, which he used to post the most tweets during his presidency. However, he is losing his role as a “world leader”.
Twitter has certain exception rules for users with this status. Tweets from “World Leaders” who violate the guidelines will not be deleted, but only given a warning. Trump will lose this privilege from January.
