The wait has finally come to an end and in the living rooms of numerous gamers around the world there is now a PlayStation 5, the next-generation Sony console that in addition to offering the possibility to play new and old titles thanks to backwards compatibility, also implements a large array of features that could confuse users at the first start. So let’s try to find out what are the steps to follow in the first moments of a PlayStation 5’s life to get the best out of the operating system and overcome any problems.
Login via the app
Just as we saw in the guide with the 5 tips for those who start an Xbox Series X | S for the first time, PlayStation 5 also implements a system that allows you to log in to your account in a practical and fast way through theofficial application. If you haven’t already done so, download the free app on the App Store or Google Play Store and log into your PlayStation Network profile. When the new console asks you to enter your login information,
you will notice on the right side of the screen a barcode with a series of numbers underneath. At this point open the application on your smartphone, click on the gear at the top right and select “Log in to PS5” in the “Console management” section: a screen will open where you can manually enter the code or frame the QR with the camera and make sure that access is automatically made on the console, without pressing a single button on the DualSense.
Deactivate sleep mode
Although there are no certainties about it, it seems that the rest mode of PlayStation 5 is potentially dangerous at the moment and that, due to a bug, there is a risk that the console could be damaged precisely because of this functionality. While waiting for Sony to release an official press release on q, we suggest you disable it not only by selecting the option “Reduced energy consumption” in the first boot settings, but also to disable automatic standby. In fact, know that it is not enough to select the energy saving mode to ensure that the console does not go into sleep mode
since by default the system activates this feature after a few minutes of inactivity (which could almost certainly happen to you while waiting for the download of new games and patches to finish). To deactivate sleep mode you must enter the settings menu, select “System”, then “Energy saving”, finally the voice “Set time until PS5 enters sleep mode”: here you can decide after how long to let the console enter this mode during games (this item also includes staying on the main screen) or while playing multimedia content and in both cases the recommended choice is “Do not activate sleep mode”.
Play digital titles offline
Even in PlayStation 5 there is the possibility of associate an account with the machine and make sure that all licenses (ie digital games, expansions and subscriptions such as PlayStation Plus) can be used by all other users of the console, even offline. This option could be very useful in case there is no active internet connection or if there are several people in the family using the same console and you don’t want to buy the PS Plus or the same game multiple times.
To activate / deactivate an account on the console, all you have to do is access the settings menu and select “Users and accounts”. At this point click on “Other” and then “Console sharing and offline playback”: a menu should then appear on the screen through which you can activate or deactivate the console. It should be noted that each account can be activated at the same time on up to one PlayStation 4 and one PlayStation 5, so you don’t need to deactivate your old console and then activate the new one.
Speaking of accounts, we remind you that the option can be selected from the “Users and accounts” menu “Login setting” to set the account currently in use to perform theautomatic access when the console is turned on. This way you will avoid selecting the profile every time, very useful if you are the only ones to use the PS5.
Configurate l’Audio 3D
One of Sony’s most publicized features for its PlayStation 5 is technology Tempest 3D Audiotech, which can be used with any pair of headphones, even those that can be connected directly to the DualSense controller. 3D Audio is enabled by default when you plug in headphones, but you can also make changes by accessing the menu
settings and visiting the following menu: Audio-> Audio Out-> Adjust 3D Audio Profile (accessible only when headphones are connected to PS5). This screen contains five different presets which allow the player to experience various intensities of this technology and select the one that best suits their hearing. Since each person perceives 3D Audio in a different way, it is essential that before diving into a game that uses this technology, you select the right preset.
Change the game options
Another feature first introduced in the PlayStation 5 operating system is called Game Preset and consists of a settings menu whose preferences are then automatically exported to games that support this feature.
Entering the settings menu, go to “Saved data and game / app settings” and selecting the item “Game presets” you will be asked to change the following parameters:
• Difficulty (Game Default, Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard or Very Hard)
• Performance Mode or Resolution Mode
• First person view (normal or inverted)
• Third person view (normal or inverted)
• Subtitles and audio
In short, if you are a lover of inverted view, subtitles or original dubbing, from today you will no longer have to wait for the game to allow you to access the settings menu in order to activate them.
The Control center it is a fundamental tool for using PlayStation 5 correctly. To call up this menu, all you need to do is click on logo PlayStation sul Dual Sense to make it appear as if by magic at the bottom of the screen: here you will find shortcuts to access the friends list (Game Base), check the download list, close games, turn off the console, customize the options related to the controller and much more . If you want to add or remove features on this screen, press the tasto Options while the Control Center is active and you will be given the option to check or uncheck the icons to be checked in this menu.
Save space on the SSD
Remember the PlayStation 4 feature that allowed you to take a screenshot when you got each Trophy? On PlayStation 5, however, a short cinematic will be recorded for each trophy unlocked, taking up space on the SSD that could be used for other purposes such as installing games and related add-ons.
To disable this option, all you need to do is open the settings menu, click on “Captures and transmissions” and select the item “Trophies”. In this screen you can activate screenshots, activate / deactivate videos and set their duration.
Watch out for privacy
Among the many unique features of the PlayStation 5 controller, the DualSense, we also find a microphone which allows players to communicate with their friends without necessarily having to use external peripherals (in this regard, we remind you that USB microphones are compatible with PS5). This device included of the controller it is active by default and it can’t just be disabled manually by pressing the white button located between the two analog sticks, which turns orange when it is not transmitting audio
If you don’t want to do it every time you turn on the console, know that there is the possibility of making sure that the audio of the microphone integrated in the DualSense is disabled by default, so that you can decide when and if to put it into operation. To do this you have to open the settings menu, select “Audio” and then “Microphone”: from here you can change the entries “Microphone status at login” e “Microphone status when chat or broadcast starts” to avoid inconveniences and preserve your privacy.
If you are a lover of screenshots and you love sharing them on social networks or via the PlayStation Network with your friends, there is a trick to significantly improve image quality captured by using the key Create, which replaces the old Share.
To make this simple change, follow this path in the settings menu: Captures and Broadcasts-> Captures-> Snapshot Format of the Screen.
Here you can change the following options:
• HDR (High Dynamic Range): disable this option to capture images without HDR (don’t worry, the effect will remain active and this change will only involve screenshots)
• File Type: for the best quality (and largest size) images select PNG
The right version of the games
On PlayStation 5 it is possible to play three different types of games: those designed specifically for the new console, those PS4 and those that have received a free or paid upgrade. The last mentioned could create some inconvenience and it is not uncommon to see players who, unknowingly, install and play the wrong version.
Fortunately, there is a way to make sure that the one on your console is the PS5 edition: select the game in the console’s main menu, click on the down arrow on the D-pad and then select the small round button with the three dots: a drop-down menu will open that contains the various versions of the game and will allow you to select the PlayStation 5 version if the PlayStation 4 version is active or vice versa.
Alternatively, you can go to the complete list of all the games installed on the console (the last item to the right of the home) and set a filter to have only PS4 games or only PS5 games highlighted. To activate the filter select thecircular icon with arrow pointing down and three horizontal lines and click on the platform: a drop-down menu will appear in which to choose the PS5 version.
