Compared to the operating system of the now old Sony console, PS4, PlayStation 5 offers a completely different user interface that requires users to get used to even very simple actions like logging into their own friends list.
If you’ve just turned on your new PlayStation 5 for the first time and don’t have a clue how to find out which of your friends are currently available to play, the steps to follow are very simple. The first step consists in opening the Control Center, a fundamental feature to reach most of the Sony console menus, by pressing the center button of the DualSense controller (the one with the PlayStation logo on it). When you press the button, a series of white icons on a black background will appear at the bottom of the screen: to access the friends list you must select the item with the X key Game Base (the one between the notification bell and the musical note), and then scroll to the bottom of the drop-down menu that has just opened to click on “View all friends”.
At this point you are inside the Game Base, which is the new name of the PS5 friends list. In this screen you can use the L1 and R1 keys to scroll through the active parties, the list of connected friends, the friend requests sent / received and the search function for new friends via PSN ID. Also in this menu you can create a new party by simply pressing the Triangle button, so as to access the screen where you can select the friends to invite to the group.
If you are curious to discover other options offered by the Control Center, we recommend that you take a look at the guide on how to turn off the PlayStation 5 using the DualSense. Have you already read the article with the 10 things to do immediately after the first start of the PS5?
