In a recent interview with GQ magazine, Jim Ryan, the president of Sony, wanted to reassure all those who are preparing to buy PS5. In fact, he declared himself “very optimistic“on the future of PlayStation 5. For the CEO of SIE, in fact, the console has ahead of him”a bright future of 5, 6 or 7 years“.
Obviously there is nothing written in stone, but for what he can foresee the physical console will be the future, at least in the medium term. “After that, “continued Ryan,”who knows? I think the cloud, over the next few years, will become more and more important, although there is yet to find the business model suitable and overcome technical challenges. And while this happens, we will continue our analyzes and our investments by carefully looking for the very right solutions.”
A very different analysis than that made by many people in the past: “I feel like I’ve spent most of my PlayStation life listening to people saying that this generation would be the last, because something would come to make physical consoles redundant“continued Ryan.”I’m sure these people are really wise and smart, but as of today they haven’t been right yet.”
In the meantime, however, Microsoft is focusing all its efforts on Game Pass by shifting its focus to services and not hardware sales. Who will be right?
