For a few days, rumors have been circulating on the net based on an alleged tweet from producer Masayoshi Yokoyama, who want a new episode of the Ryū Ga Gotoku series in development: it would be called Yakuza: Like an Asura and would have as protagonist Masaru Watase, boss of the Omi Alliance.
Well, there is nothing true, and it was Yokoyama himself who told us. The producer, after saying he was honored to be at the center of rumors originating overseas, said he had never published that tweet and has categorically denied the existence of Yakuza Like an Asura. He added that he was not even involved in the development of another spin-off, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, fresh from the release on PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S and coming to PS5 in March of ‘ next year (director Ryosuke Horii and producers Hiroyuki Sakamoto and Daisuke Sato were in charge of the latter). Yokoyama also confessed that, while loving Masaru Watase very much, probably it wouldn’t make him the protagonist of his own game. Making Gojo Majima the main character of Yakuza 0 also required a lot of discussion and the final decision was not made lightly.
Nothing to do, then. The future of the Ryū Ga Gotoku series is still shrouded in mystery. In the meantime, we can walk and battle (in turns) between the streets of Sotenbori, Kamurocho and Ijincho in Yakuza Like a Dragon.
I’m a little happy to be forged via overseas, but …
Like Ashura? Toya is not 100%. I don’t even make it.
And I wouldn’t do that naming. It feels the same as a white leopard or a prajna (laughs).
Apart from the concept, Hokuto is a dragon spin-off system.
