iPhone 12 mini it is the smartphone that many have wanted, but the one that few have bought. The compact from Apple is not enjoying great success within the 2020 lineup and the first rumors of Morgan Stanley seem to be confirmed also in the recent report published by DigiTimes.
According to reports, in fact, it seems that Pegatron has received the order to reduce the production of the mini variant of the iPhone 12. The first details on the sales volumes speak of an iPhone 12 mini capable of account for just 6% of total sales in the last reporting period (the one that also includes the holiday season), barely managing to surpass the performance of the iPhone XR, a product that has been on the market for more than 2 years.
The source suggests that a justification for poor sales in some key markets – such as the US and Europe – should be linked to the persistence of the pandemic, without adding any other details. This scenario actually has negative implications for the compact Apple house, since it makes one of the main advantages of this smartphone marginal compared to the other devices in the lineup, namely its practicality when traveling. The mini, in fact, is certainly more comfortable in all those contexts of daily mobility that were most widespread before the pandemic, while its added value tends to get lost when one moves towards more sedentary lifestyles.
Another decisive element it could be related to the price, since proposals such as the same iPhone XR and iPhone SE 2020 turn out to be more effective in intercepting the demand of those who want to approach the Apple world with the lowest possible outlay. This is net of the fact that the 12 mini does not impose any sacrifice in power and functionality; simply the gap with the base iPhone 12 is too small and for many users it is not a sufficient incentive to move towards this proposal.
Finally, the DigiTimes report also confirms that, on the whole, the 2020 iPhone lineup is experiencing a particularly positive period: if on the one hand it is true that the iPhone 12 mini fails to shine, on the other a ever-growing demand for Pro models, to which Apple has repositioned much of its partners’ production capacity. iPhone 12 Pro Max is certainly the most interesting model of the lineup, thanks to some exclusive features of the photographic sector that we told you about, while the 12 Pro is finding more success than its predecessors thanks to the abandonment of the 5.8 “format, in favor of a 6.1 “display.
