Smartphones OnePlus and Google Camera are not good friends
A couple of years ago, OnePlus was called the “flagship killer” company, but now that has changed. She headed for the fact that now her flagships have caught up in price with the devices of more eminent companies. Fans lamented this, recalling the old days when OnePlus models were offered at nice prices.
There is also enough criticism about the characteristics of the devices and, perhaps, most of all goes to smartphone cameras. A fly in the ointment was also added by Celso Azevedo, who develops and collects mods for the popular Google Camera app. He posted an article in which he criticized the cameras of OnePlus smartphones, in particular, Nord.

He stated that cameras were the weak point of OnePlus smartphones from the beginning, despite all the company’s attempts to argue otherwise. Some positive shifts towards better photo capabilities appeared in the OnePlus 8 Pro. According to the enthusiast, the OnePlus Nord camera does not show itself in the best way. The GCam mod can be installed on the Nord, but it works with limitations.
The biggest complaint is OnePlus’s ban on the use of additional cameras. So, until recently, it was impossible to resort to auxiliary cameras without root rights on the OnePlus 7 / 7T, OnePlus 8 / 8T and Nord. And when the developers were able to get around the ban, the company released a patch. This was done with one purpose – users must work with the standard camera application. And this is provided that users criticized the “hardware” and software cameras of OnePlus smartphones.

The enthusiast managed to port GCam to OnePlus Nord and improve the quality of the images. But the existing restrictions do not allow you to get the most out of this “merger”. According to Celso Azevedo, OnePlus smartphones are not good friends with GCam. You can choose cheaper options that the Google Camera application “fits” well, where there are fewer restrictions and you can get better quality photos by software.
