According to an Imperva report, the main cause of the scarcity of PC hardware, especially NVIDIA RTX and AMD GPUs, as well as next-gen consoles such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, is mainly due to the massive use of bots. As reported by the site, in fact, near the launch of the aforementioned products there has been an impressive increase in activity by the bots.
In fact, the report states how, in the various retail sites, we have seen a bot growth of 788%, and this only in the period between September and October, which coincided both with the launch of the NVIDIA RTX and with the first pre-orders of PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X.
“As we have been monitoring for the past 8 years, ‘bad bots’ continue to raid the internet, and as the characteristics of the attacks become more advanced and smoky. During the past year and during the pandemic, bots have thrived, targeting new markets and creating inconvenience for consumers “; says Edward Roberts, director of strategy at Imperva.
As reported by Jacob Ridley, of PC Gamer, traders are taking different measures to deal with bots. In short, this fight against bots really seems endless, unfortunately for consumers. And the shortage of semiconductors certainly only puts the strain on buyers.
