Game news FIFA 21: The individual sale of cosmetics sows discord
FIFA 21 definitely leads a complicated existence. After a release marked by a mixed critical reception, the strengthening of the fight against lootboxes, and recent documents revealing EA’s retention strategy on the title, now place for cosmetic items that can be purchased in the store.
On May 1, EA updated the FIFA 21 ingame store, adding a new tab. This one, entitled Stade, allows players to buy cosmetic items outside of lootboxes individually, or gathered in a pack for a small saving. In particular, we can buy a tifo for 150 FIFA points (around € 1.50), a stadium theme for 300 points, or even shirts priced at 300 points each. Against 700 FIFA points, or 60,000 credits, it is possible to buy the complete pack.
The community was quick to react, criticizing this novelty for several reasons. Some feel it is unnecessary, others indicate that they are already paying well enough, while others project themselves and imagine that this is only a first step towards a variation of the economic model, allowing to bypass the problem of lootboxes. Obviously, FIFA points can be obtained by playing, but the price set seems to direct players to a direct purchase. For the moment, Electronic Arts has not commented on the reception of this new store.
