Can’t choose on Netflix? Then let yourself be surprised by the new Netflix feature Play Something. That is how it works.
After a year of corona measures, do you feel like you’ve seen everything on Netflix? Is it a discussion every evening with your partner or roommates about who gets to choose the film? If one of these situations sounds recognizable, then Netflix has a nice feature rolled out for you: Play Something. Netflix Play Something is similar to the Shuffle Play functions of music streaming services. You can use the function to let Netflix discover new series or films for you.
Netflix started rolling out their Shuffle Play late last week. I saw the new feature on my account for the first time on Friday evening, so you probably already have it available. But how do you use it?
Netflix Play Something: That’s How It Works
For now, you can only use Play Something on your smart TV. It is not known whether the feature will also come to Netflix’s desktop or mobile application. So first open the television app of the streaming platform. There are two ways to use Netflix Play Something. The first way you will get already with it Who’s Watching?home screen. You will see the Play Something button appear under your account. You can also find this button in the navigation menu on the left of the main menu (see image). Go to the button with your remote control and a title will immediately start playing. You have never chosen so quickly!
When choosing a title, Netflix’s algorithms rely on your viewing history to estimate which genres you enjoy watching. Nevertheless, there is a reasonable chance that the first recommendation is not immediately perfect. You will therefore see the option Play Something Else on the right to instruct Netflix to set up something else. Ultimately, you will still have to make the final decision.
Do you not completely trust Netflix’s algorithms, but can you still use some viewing tips? Then take a look at our Netflix overview of this month to know which titles are coming.
