Max Hodak, who, together with Elon Musk, founded the neurotechnology startup Neuralink in 2016 and until recently worked there as president, May 2 reported on his twitter that he left the company a few weeks ago.
Max Hodak himself did not say why he decided to leave the company, but mentioned that he “learned a lot” over the years of work at Neuralink and remains “an ardent supporter of the startup.” What he will do in the future, he did not disclose.
When asked by a Twitter user about the next project, Max Hodak jokingly stated that this is not Jurassic Park… This is a reference to a recent statement from a top manager – in early April he reportedthat “Jurassic Park, if desired, could be built in the next 15 years”, albeit not with “genetically authentic dinosaurs.”
we could probably build jurassic park if we wanted to. wouldn’t be genetically authentic dinosaurs but 🤷♂️. maybe 15 years of breeding + engineering to get super exotic novel species

Max Hodak founded the startup Neuralink with Elon Musk in 2016. He specializes in the development of high-tech interfaces for connecting the brain to a computer. By data Crunchbase, since its inception, Elon Musk has invested $ 158 million in it.
To date, Neuralink has created at least two versions of the invasive neural interface – last summer we were shown an improved chip, then a demonstration of the neural interface on Gertrude’s pig was part of the presentation. In April, startup Neuralink held a second demonstration of the technology on animals, showing a monkey with an implanted chip playing ping-pong on a PC with its mind.

Western media were unable to get a more detailed commentary on the reasons for his departure from Max Hodak. However, last year, several former Neuralink employees told Stat News, that the company is in chaos, and that researchers are under great pressure due to very tight deadlines – weeks to complete a task instead of months.
As of the end of August 2020, Neuralink employed about 100 people and then it was said about the intention to eventually increase the staff to 10,000 people. Since then, Neuralink and Elon Musk himself have repeatedly reminded of open vacancies in the company at every opportunity.
- In 2017, Elon Musk promised commercial neural interfaces for connecting the brain with a computer in 8-10 years, and medical devices in four. In another old interview, he talked about the need to combine “biological and digital intelligences” as the next logical stage in human development.
