New Pokémon Snap, the new Nintendo title dedicated to pocket monsters, topped the charts in UK sales in its first week of debut. Beating the launch of Returnal for PlayStation 5.
This sequel was released on the Switch more than twenty years later, the original title that debuted in 2000 on the Nintendo 64 it sold four times more than its predecessor, which only placed ninth on its exit. Although the first chapter was released in full Pokémon mania, it was a Nintendo 64 title that was a console that was struggling to sell in the UK (1.5 million units of N64 compared to 5.4 million of PlayStation).
The game has literally stolen the top spot from Sony’s new PlayStation 5 exclusive, Returnal which only finished second in this first week of debut.
Sony’s ruogelite was the first true exclusive of this early generation for PlayStation 5, as rand reviews extensively praised him as a really well done title (by the way, read our Returnal review), however recorded sales are lower when compared to the other triple A exclusives that have seen light on PlayStation During the years.
However, it is necessary to break a lance in favor of Returnal, having to take into consideration some factors that have certainly influenced the sales volumes. Let’s start by saying that PlayStation 5 is still in its early stages of distribution in the homes of players, and certainly the limited availability of the console has contributed to this. To date there are only 7.8 million units in circulation (including those in the hands of touts).
In addition to this, other factors that may have influenced sales in some way may be price and gender. Listed Returnal is not exactly cheap (around 68 pounds), and it is a game based on a niche genre just like the rougelites are and especially next week he will face the release of a new sacred monster of the videogame world: Resident Evil Village.
And to conclude, like all games for PlayStation 5 we must expect that sales can increase or decrease as new stocks of the console arrive on the market.
obviously this data is based solely on the physical version of the game, there is still no data related to the digital versions of Returnal sold that could confirm or reverse the situation, such as the vote of Alessandro Borghese to be clear.
And what do you think, have you bought or tried one of the two aforementioned titles? Let us know, as always, in the comments.
