Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced, via its official website, a new collaboration with Discord to integrate the famous communication platform with PlayStation 5 and with its mobile application.
The announcement comes with a press release signed by Jim Ryan, current president and CEO of SIE: “At PlayStation, we are constantly looking for new ways for players around the world to connect with each other, form new friends and communities, and share lasting experiences and memories. In this spirit, we are thrilled to announce a new partnership with Discord, the communications service popularized by gamers and used by over 140 million people every month around the world. Together, our teams are already working hard to connect Discord with your social and gaming experience on PlayStation Network. Our goal is to integrate the use of Discord and PlayStation on consoles and mobile systems starting early next year, allowing friends, groups and communities to stand out, have fun and communicate more easily while they play“.
The press release then describes the operation undertaken by Sony: “To bring these experiences to life, SIE made a minority investment as part of Discord’s Series H round. From the very first conversation with founders Jason Citron and Stan Vishnevskiy, I was inspired by their love of games and the passion shared by our teams to help bring friends and communities together in new ways. Enabling players to form communities and share gaming experiences is at the heart of our action, so we’re thrilled to start this journey with one of the world’s most popular communications services.“.
In short, starting from the beginning of 2022, Sony home consoles will be able to enjoy deeper integration with Discord. All that remains is to wait for further news on the timing and methods of the operation. Meanwhile, a new trailer showcases PlayStation 5’s 120 fps support.
