Despite being very warmly received for its playful and technical qualities, Returnal’s turned out to be a controversial debut. The title is receiving a lot of criticism due to its save system, but users are likewise disappointed because of the number and severity of bugs they are running into.
In the Returnal subreddit, users are discussing new technical issues that have appeared following the distribution of the 1GB patch 1.003.001 on PS5, of which the Housemarque developers have not disclosed any specific details (presumably it was a simple update aimed at improving the overall stability of the game).
Not everything seems to have gone as planned by the Finnish development team, with users who are finding themselves unable to continue their adventure. One player in particular reports his unfortunate case in which he had no way to open Helios’ door, thus finding himself completely blocked. The bug has been confirmed by other players, but apparently there are also problems in picking up some items or teleporting out of some rooms. Housemarque said it constantly listens to feedback from its community, and we will see if Sony’s software house will have to say something about these headaches that currently plague the Sci-Fi roguelike.
Over the last few hours, Returnal has been a victim of the now widespread phenomenon of review bombing. Apparently, many users have been really burned to discover the absence of a classic save system, while others complain of excessive spikes in the difficulty of the PS5 game.
