With a new update, carmaker Polestar is launching a beta feature that allows you to unlock the electric car Polestar 2 automatically detecting the owner’s smartphone.
Looking forward to more features to come in the future, Polestar has just caught up Tesla in a simple but important context: getting in the car.
Polestar is catching up with Tesla thanks to software updates
Using 18 Bluetooth sensors, the new functionality Polestar Digital Key allows you to get onelectric car without opening an app or touching a surface, however to start it you need to be in the driver’s seat and position the smartphone to avoid accidental switching on.
The update also introduces battery preheating to extend battery life, more accurate empty distance calculation and better support for wireless charging of newer smartphones with additional magnetic elements, such as theiPhone 12.
The Polestar app also got features such as remote lockout, air conditioning start and the ability to check battery status in beta version.
Tesla cars like the Model 3 have been supporting the digital key for years, however it is interesting that a major feature like this is being made available via an OTA update that will gradually reach the entire Polestar 2 fleet.
