Apple has hired Samy Bengio, one of the foremost artificial intelligence experts in the United States.
As reported Reuters, Samy Bengio he led Google’s AI ethics group for years, before leaving the company a few weeks ago following an entire team reshuffle. In Apple, Bengio will lead a new AI research unit which will report directly to executive John Giannandrea, responsible for the company’s machine learning and artificial intelligence strategies.
For some time, the well-known computer scientist managed hundreds of researchers on the Google Brain team, but his role was limited after an internal reorganization of the entire research team. This decision led to several criticisms from other Google engineers, some of whom decided to step down after the leadership of the team was passed to Marian Croak.
Together with John Giannadrea (another former Google), Bengio will now have to improve Apple’s AI technologies, with the hope that Siri will benefit above all.
