Late on the evening of May 3, Apple released unscheduled “urgent” firmware updates for the iPhone, Mac, and Apple Watch – they address a security issue that, according to Apple, could be actively used.
UpdatesAccommodation iOS / iPadOS 14.5.1, macOS 11.3.1 and watchOS 7.4.1 are intended to fix exploits in WebKit, Apple’s web content rendering framework. In simple terms, the update closes a security hole that allows malicious websites to run unverified code on Apple devices.
In an official message, Apple strongly recommends that users install these updates as soon as possible, as they close serious security holes in the operating system.
For older devices including iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPad Air, iPad mini 2, and iPad mini 3, Apple released iOS 12.5.3 with a fix for a WebKit vulnerability.
