With the recent iOS update to version 14.5, Facebook and Instagram apps have started notifying users that tracking activity and collecting their personal data helps keep apps free.
These notifications are driven by the implementation of a new approach to privacy App Tracking Transparency – from now on developers will be required to always ask users for permission to track actions for targeting ads. When Apple announced the changes last year, Facebook was the most opposed to their implementation – Mark Zuckerberg’s company said it could negatively affect the advertising business and even bought newspaper advertisements criticizing the new privacy rules.

Remarkably, in 2019 Facebook without any explanation removed the slogan “It’s free and always will be” from the main page of the social network.
In the first quarter of 2021, Facebook revenue reached $ 26.17 billion – 48% more than a year ago. At the same time, net profit actually increased by 94% – to $ 9.4 billion.
