Among the various projects developed by Riot Games in order to exploit the wave of success of League of Legends, in addition to the mobile version of the game – Wild Rift – released in December on iOS and Android, there is also a animated TV series coming to Netflix, or League of Legends Arcane. Since it was announced in 2019, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the franchise, nothing has been heard of it.
And so until last night, when a short was published teaser video which shows us some action sequences and gives us a taste of the graphic style adopted for this transmedial conversion of the spirit of the series and the atmospheres that we will find. Not only that: from Netflix also comes another important information, or the release period, set for theautumn of 2021.
Therefore, there is still no precise date, but only an indicative time window: in the coming months, however, we should certainly know more, with the release of further details and less concise trailers.
League of Legends Arcane is a series created in collaboration with Fortiche Productions and set in the fictional region of Piltover, an area bordering the dark lands of Zaun. As for the plot, the information is scarce, but it should be centered on the origins of two League champions, Vi and Jinx, fighting against a power that will put them in the grip of hordes of enemies and obstacles of all kinds.
Shauna Spenley, President of Global Entertainment at Riot Games, said that Arcane it will be a real love letter for the players of the famous MOBA, and this clearly suggests that the series does not constitute (only) a deviation from the world of video games but rather an expansion, an element capable of giving greater breath and volume to an imaginative universe already well defined but with still many margins for growth, deepening the stories of the champions and the settings that animate the gameplay of one of the most successful titles in videogame history.
