Being the “winner” of the quarantine process that occurred due to COVID-19, this may be the right sentence to explain Nintendo’s position in 2020. The release of casual games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons took the already high-demand consoles skyrocketing. In some cases, such as what happened in Indonesia, the price even went up high due to limited stock which was also a consequence of the same situation. With increasing demand, Nintendo is reportedly struggling to boost the production capacity of the Nintendo Switch.
The latest report from the Nikkei Asia website states that for this fiscal year, Nintendo will boost production of the Nintendo Switch to 30 million units! Nintendo has reportedly visited several Switch part suppliers to start accelerating the production process in the name of meeting this target. If all 30 million Switch units are sold, the Switch will end up beating the total sales of the Nintendo Wii. Nikkei Asia also agrees with the rumors and speculations about the Nintendo Switch “Pro version” which will incidentally be stronger with better visual capabilities.
Nintendo itself still hasn’t spoken about the Pro version, which many of these media keep talking about. One thing is for sure, the Switch continues to prove itself as one of their most successful consoles, especially in terms of sales. How about you? Do you include current Switch users?
