The Samsung S8 and S8 Plus will only receive quarterly security updates from now on.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus will no longer receive updates. That writes DroidLife and was confirmed by Samsung. It was about to come that the Galaxy S8 models are ‘end-of-life’ for the smartphone giant. Four years after the launch, users will still be able to use their device, but without software updates. Per exception, the Galaxy S8 Active and the S8 Lite would still receive updates, but that would not be long since both models are only a few months younger.
Samsung Galaxy S8
This series from Samsung was a huge hit four years ago. The company then achieved a record of pre-orders that it could no longer match afterwards. For many people, the Samsung flagship was the ideal alternative that was also affordable. Something that has also changed in the meantime.
The flagship models from 2017 have so far received an update for their device every month. Samsung has warned for a long time that the models would soon no longer receive support. The devices will still receive a security update every quarter.
Currently, the Galaxy S9 and S9 + are next in line. Both should receive an additional year of updates. You can view the list of models and updates read here.
