It has been confirmed that PlayStation has registered the trademark of Sunset Overdrive, a former Xbox One exclusive developed by Insomniac Games and released on Xbox One in 2014. This therefore suggests that Sony is actually intent on bring the title to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, which would not surprise us. After all, the holder of the IP is Insomniac Games, which we now remember being part of PlayStation Studios.
A very pleasant scenario for PlayStation owners, and maybe even for those who have switched from Xbox One to PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 and miss the Insomniac title. After all, we’re still talking about a very good open world game with a very refined aesthetic.
The city of Sunset City was in fact very colorful and very detailed and had a decidedly guessed level design, which made its open-world concept much more fun than the norm. Everything has been enriched by a valuable graphic sector. This earned him a worthy Metascore on Metacritic, equal to 81 on the Xbox One version.
Unfortunately, the game went a bit quiet at the time, also thanks to the disastrous launch of Xbox One which certainly did not help the game’s sales. Sunset Overdrive was then released several years later on PC, in 2018. Insomniac Games was also willing to do a second chapter but it all faded with the acquisition of the latter by Sony.
And you, what do you think of this news? Would you like to return to Sunset City? Tell us in the comments, as always.
