The smartphone has become an indispensable attribute of a modern person’s life. He has entered our life so tightly that his unexpected absence – lost, forgotten – causes stress or panic in people. The fear of losing a mobile device is bordered by the fear of missing a call or message. Already scientists and the term gave the dependence on the smartphone – nomophobia. Users suffering from this ailment do not part with the device, even where it is inappropriate – a toilet or a bathroom.
The Reviews.org resource conducted a survey among 1,000,000 Americans over the age of 18 to find out the degree of their dependence on electronic gadgets. It found that the average American checks their phone on average 262 times a day, or every 5.5 minutes. On average, users spend 3 hours and 19 minutes on the phone, with 50 minutes before bedtime.
Many people start their morning with checking their smartphone: 80% of people grab it in the first 10 minutes after waking up. And every second American (50%) has never spent more than a day without a phone.
The survey results also show that 43% of Americans consider their smartphone to be their most valuable asset, 83% use it as an alarm clock and 54% of respondents feel a sense of panic if the device’s charge falls below 20%. Perhaps the saddest and most dangerous is that 40% of Americans admitted using the phone while driving. And 70% of Americans go to the toilet accompanied by a smartphone.
62% of respondents sleep with a smartphone and 47% check or use it on a date. Many, and this is 48% of respondents, admitted that they are aware of their dependence on a mobile device.

Phones are gradually replacing cameras, cards, payment terminals, references and other familiar attributes of the past.
