It seems that OPPO too may intend to enter the car world to make his own electric model. Lately the big tech companies seem to be more and more interested in entering this sector. In particular, there seems to be a lot of excitement from China with companies of the caliber of Baidu, Xiaomi and Huawei intending to bring their own brand cars or equipped with their technology to the road.
As for OPPO, a report from CarNewsChina states that the Chinese company is considering the possibility of entering the auto sector. In particular, its CEO and founder Tony Chen he would be carrying out the project himself. In recent weeks, Chen would be busy conducting investigations and talking to companies in the industry as well as making the first hires. It even seems to have been there a meeting with CATL, a well-known Chinese company that produces cells for electric car batteries. Company that has Tesla and Mercedes among its customers, just to name two important names.
The project, however, has not yet been defined at the moment and not even a car division has been established but the report seems to make it clear that it might not take long. OPPO obviously did not want to confirm the news but its CEO recently stated:
Also in automobile manufacturing, we will focus on areas where OPPO can do well. If car manufacturers can’t build good cars and OPPO has the strength, we will try it in the future.
As far as we can understand, OPPO has not yet chosen the type of approach to be adopted for the eventual entry into the auto sector. He may buy / partner with an existing manufacturer to produce his car or he may even decide to do it all himself. Alternatively, it may decide to only become a technology provider for some brands. The Chinese company, it should be remembered, has already filed several patents related to autonomous driving.
In recent times, rumors about the projects of technology companies in the automotive world are increasingly frequent, but the experience of the “Apple Car soap opera” suggests that everything must be taken with due caution. Therefore, all that remains is to be patient to understand if OPPO really intends to enter this sector.
