A very useful feature of PS5 is creating quite a few problems for gamers Returnal, to the point that the developers felt compelled to warn their users about deactivate it.
When Sony’s next-gen console goes into standby, you can take advantage of the sleep mode which allows you to resume the games of Returnal and other titles in a few moments, after turning the console back on.
The problem is that this feature also allows you to automatically download updates of each title and, at their conclusion, closes the games to be able to apply them: given that Returnal does not have a feature to save the game during a run, this feature is ruining the experience for many players.
As we have in fact had the opportunity to tell you in our review, the latest PS5 exclusive is a roguelike with good longevity and which does not allow players to physically take a break, if not taking advantage of the rest option to «create» un checkpoint.
Also Housemarque, as reported by Destructoid, has not remained indifferent to the problem and, although they still do not want to talk about introducing a mechanic of quick save within their latest, they are keen to warn their players that it is best to disable the automatic update.
An update is indeed coming very soon, more precisely at 21.00 today, and if the automatic update is active the PS5 will close the game, consequently causing any run in progress of the players to be interrupted.
The team has therefore decided to make a tweet to inform players of this eventuality, also leaving a link to the PlayStation site which explains in detail how to disable this feature:
PSA: #Returnal patch and patch notes will go live tomorrow (May 5) at noon PST, 7pm GMT.
– Housemarque (@Housemarque) May 4, 2021
In the comments, however, users asked Housemarque to consider introducing an option for save and exit the game, which would actually be the best solution to solve the problem.
If users use PS5’s rest mode for to maintain their own progress, it is precisely because on Returnal strangely this very useful feature is absent.
We will see if after these problems caused by the automatic update the developers will retrace their steps, or if Sony will decide to change slightly the functionality to avoid similar cases in the future.
When in doubt, the users were warned: If you don’t want to risk losing your progress on Returnal, disable this option as soon as possible.
This is therefore a new situation to be solved, after constant crashes have made it difficult for some fans to play on PS5, including Returnal.
This small problem obviously does not detract from the beauty of the exclusive created by Housemarque, which really made us feel as if we were really on an alien planet.
