The largest instant communications platform now allows you to make payments directly through the application for Android and iOS mobile devices in Brazil. The function was introduced today (5) in that country and can reach more points in the world.
Thus, in addition to sending messages and participating in group chats, we will also be able to make payments through the Facebook group’s service which now has its “PayPal” integrated. The announcement was made through the official channels of the messaging app.
WhatsApp already does everything, including payments in Brazil
Above we see the company’s own publication on its Twitter profile. It will allow you to send money and make some payments through the app, without fees and in a simple way, being a function requested by users since it started arriving in other countries.
In fact, this same possibility should extend to other countries and markets, and eventual availability in Portugal cannot be excluded, although for now, however, there are indicators in this direction.
We recall, however, that this function introduced today was pointed out by the publication WABetaInfo about a year ago. The delay would have been justified by the necessary procedures and mandatory authorizations to provide a payment platform.
The system similar to Paypal is thus present in WhatsApp
The testing of the new function began several months ago, however, its implementation was blocked by the Central Bank of Brazil, justifying the financial institution this block with the nature and repercussions of the function in the economic sector.
More specifically, the BCB pointed out that such an option would harm institutionalized banking and the respective payment systems already in use. However, its endorsement, allowing the availability of the WhatsApp payment system.
The function was also disclosed by David Marcus, former president of Paypal and current vice president of Facebook’s products and messaging industry. It should be noted that this option will be made available gradually and in stages in Brazil.
Coming soon (also) in Europe
The user can confirm the availability of this option by accessing the options within any conversation. It should also be noted that, according to some user reports, it will be enough to receive a payment request from another user who already has the function available for it to be activated on your smartphone.
Finally, we expect the same system to arrive in Europe in the near future. Among the first nations to receive the WhatsApp payment system are the United Kingdom, as well as our neighboring country, Spain. Thus, a gradual expansion to Portugal is also likely.
