The Polish studio 11 bit, which created This War of Mine and Frostpunk, has unveiled a teaser for its new game, the name of which has not yet been revealed. The full announcement will take place on August 12th.
The 43-second video opens with a quote from 20th century British statesman Harold Wilson: “Rejecting Change Moves To Decline”… The camera slowly pans over a snowy field, following the prints of someone’s shoes, showing blood stains, an ax, a canister from which oil is leaking, and, finally, a person sitting on the ground.
“The wasteland, covered with a blanket of snow, seems quiet, calm, as if asleep under the lullaby of the wind. Only crimson scars on the battlefield remind of the values for which it is worth breaking alliances. Find out the truth on August 12th. “
The teaser was shown at a meeting with investors. During the conference became knownthat there are as many as three games in development: they are codenamed Project 8 (a third-person action game under a new license based on the console), Eleanor (a large game from the Frostpunk team) and Dolly (a smaller project). All of them are created on the Unreal Engine (previously used its own Liquid Engine) and will be released no earlier than 2023. The total budget is $ 30 million (Frostpunk only cost $ 2.7 million to produce). The next game will also be announced this year.
In addition, the studio announced that it intends to support the Frostpunk universe for at least ten years. In May 2019, 11 bit studios marketing director Patryk Grzeszczuk noted in an interview Gamesindustry.bizthat the world and strategy mythology is rich enough to become the basis for games of other genres.
“Add-ons have enriched the universe [Frostpunk], added new plot elements and explained many points, – said then Gzheshchuk. – The world of the game is growing. In the future, we should consider creating [ещё одного проекта в этой вселенной] – maybe not a sequel, but offshoots. For example, RPG. “
In the meantime, the studio continues to work on Frostpunk. In the third quarter of this year, paid additions to the strategy, already released on PC, will appear on consoles. An extended version for iOS and Android and the desktop Frostpunk: The Board Game are also being prepared.
Last year, 11 bit studios did not release a single game, but at the same time received the maximum revenue for the entire period of its existence – about $ 23.5 million. Now the company is increasing its staff: it is planned to expand it to 200-300 people. The goal is to start making AAA-level games like Control and Sid Meier’s Civilization VI.
More than three years have passed since the release of Frostpunk – the computer version was released in April 2018. During this time, more than three million copies of the simulator have been sold. At the moment, this is the last independent project of the company: the later released Moonlighter and Children of Morta roguelikes were developed by third-party teams.
