For many Sparkasse customers it is a reason to be happy. From now on you can also pay online and in local public transport with the Girocard in Apple Pay. So far, this has only been possible in stationary retail.
However, there is one major limitation: not every merchant who accepts Apple Pay also supports payment with the digital girocard. This function must be explicitly released by the dealer.
Girocard in Apple Pay: the number of merchants is still manageable
Therefore, the number of supporting companies is still relatively manageable. At the start, Media Markt, FlixBus and the Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV) will be there. In addition to a few others, the drugstore chain dm or the travel portal Booking.com will soon join. A full list of all participating dealers can be found here.
By the way, when using this offer, the actual card number is not stored on the device itself or at Apple. Instead, an encrypted device account number is assigned. Authentication also works with online purchases, as usual, using facial recognition, fingerprints or codes.
