Aurangabad. Congress’ Maharashtra unit president Nana Patole on Monday said the party would support if people’s problems were resolved by renaming Aurangabad. At a press conference here, Patole criticized the central government for its stand on reservation for Other Backward Classes, saying that under pressure, it (Centre) has delegated the right to make a list of such communities to the states. He said that the prices of diesel and petrol are touching the sky, which is breaking the backs of the people. Asked by various organizations to change the name of the city for nearly three decades, Patole said, “The proposal to rename the Aurangabad airport is pending before the Centre. Why is BJP not changing this? If people’s problems are solved by changing the name, then Congress will support it.

When asked about Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari’s letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray complaining about the obstacles being created by Shiv Sainiks in the construction of important roads, Patole said that Gadkari should be aware of the ongoing projects here. A white paper should be submitted after conducting an audit. Asked about some groups opposing the establishment of a sports university in Pune instead of Aurangabad, Patole said his party felt that such universities should be in all districts of the state.
