Jammu. Security forces on Sunday launched a cordon and search operation in high altitude areas of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir following information about suspected movement of terrorists from across the Line of Control (LoC). During this an encounter took place between the terrorists and the security forces. Officials gave this information. The encounter started when militants opened fire on a joint team of Army and Police in Dori Mal jungles near Barote Gali in Manjakote area, they said.

Officials said that there has been firing from both the sides for the last few hours but there was no immediate report of any casualty. According to officials, a joint operation was launched by the police and the army in the forest area of Barote Gali and parts of Thanamandi in the early hours of Sunday. Earlier, the security forces had received intelligence that a group of terrorists who were successful in infiltrating were hiding in the forests.

“The encounter is going on and details are awaited,” the senior police officer said. Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu region have seen an increase in infiltration attempts since June this year with nine separate incidents of encounters. Terrorists have been killed. Three jawans have also been martyred in the earlier operations.
