During yesterday’s presentation of new devices, Apple did not disclose information about the Apple Watch Series 7 chip. It turns out that the new watch received an old processor.
Developer Steve Troughton-Smith discovered emulators of new watch models in Xcode with their chips indicated. According to this data, the Apple Watch Series 7 is powered by the Apple S6 processor, code-named “t8301,” which powers last year’s Apple Watch Series 6. Moreover, both models use other identical internal components.
Another developer, Guilherme Rambo, noted that Apple did not even bother to improve the original version of the Series 6 processor.
It is likely that the company nevertheless developed a smartwatch in a new design with flat edges in the style of the iPhone 12 and a more powerful S7 chip, but due to production problems, literally at the last moment, the engineering team decided to keep last year’s case and all components.
