Is your PC or laptop no longer running as well as you used to, but you can’t figure out why? Then updating your drivers is a good first step. But how do you start?
We regularly receive reader questions describing a computer problem. My first question is always whether the drivers of the various components have been updated recently. In many cases this is not the case. There are several ways to update your drivers. In this workshop, we’ll get to grips with Intel Driver Support, an easy way to update some important drivers.

Step 1 / Download
Intel Driver Support can be found at www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/detect.html. The advantage of this tool is that you don’t have to search for the correct driver yourself, because that happens automatically. Your computer’s configuration is automatically detected and recommendations are made based on that. To get started, download and install the tool from the website.
Stap 2 / Intel Driver support
At the end of the installation click on Launch of Start. Driver support does its thing and again takes you to the Intel website, where you get an overview of the available drivers. In our test, those were just drivers for WiFi and Bluetooth, and they aren’t hugely important unless you’re having problems. However, you can also have chipset drivers available and you can install them. click on Download next to the driver you want and then click Install.
Step 3 / Restart Computer
After installing a new driver, it is important to restart your computer or laptop. Do this immediately when you try to solve problems, because only then can you be sure that an update has had the desired effect. You do not have to restart the computer for each driver. Installing multiple drivers and then restarting is fine and can’t hurt.
Step 4 / Possible Problems
Installing a new driver usually does not cause any problems, but if something goes wrong, it is a good solution to reinstall Windows from scratch. It is best to back up important files and then type Herstelopties in the Home menu. Choose Reset this PC and choose whether you want to keep your personal files or start from scratch. Reinstalling Windows has become a lot easier with Windows 10 and can now even be done without the original CD. Keep in mind that with a new installation you always have to install the necessary drivers.
