L’friendly neighborhood Spider-Man has been a constant presence in the videogame world since its inception: it was 1982 when the first game, simply titled Spider-Man, made its debut on Atari 2600, starting a long series of productions made by various developers over time.
Many titles dedicated to the iconic superhero Marvel they weren’t exactly quality champions, but there was no shortage of games capable of entering the hearts of fans by proving worthy of being experienced. Here are the 5 best Spider-Man games never made:
Developed by Neversoft on behalf of Activision, the first Spider-Man to come out on PlayStation (but also on N64, Dreamcast e PC) has become one of the most iconic titles of the Sony console, even without perhaps being an all-round masterpiece. But it was the first video game really capable of putting us in the role of the character, allowing us to swing freely among the skyscrapers of New York in the meantime that were beating thugs and some of the most famous enemies of Peter Parker Which Venom, Mysterio, Carnage e Dr. Octopus.
Spider-Man Mysterio’s Menace (2001)
Spider-Man has appeared several times on Game Boy from Nintendo, without ever leaving a mark. But the debut on Game Boy Advance changed the cards by offering players an intriguing and fun 2D Action / Platform to play from start to finish. Ultimate Spider-Man (2005)
Based on the hit comic of the same name, Ultimate Spider-Man came on the market with spectacular cell-shaded graphics and gameplay even more satisfying and sophisticated than that seen in Spider-Man 2. In addition, it also allowed for play as Venom giving an extra touch of variety to the action thanks to the distinguished abilities of the famous villain. An unmissable product for any lover of the irreverent hero.
Marvel’s Spider-Man (2018)
Before Insomniac Games to get his hands on Spider-Man, several other character-focused works have been made over the years, without, however, completely convincing critics and audiences. The advent of Marvel’s Spider-Man has changed everything, throwing the most ambitious video game ever made for a Marvel hero into the fray. The title PS4 (and then PS5) is the sum of what was shown by previous productions in playful terms and offers a much more sophisticated narrative. As also reported in our Marvel’s Spider-Man review, the quality was remarkable, delivering the ultimate Spider-Man game to fans. Stand-alone expansion is also worthwhile Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, also available on both old and next-gen consoles Sony.
Will the next installment of the Insomniac series be able to enter this honorable ranking? We’ll have to wait a bit before we get the answer, given that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 comes out on PS5 in 2023.
