Apple plans to expand CarPlay functionality to include in-car air conditioning controls, radio, speedometer, seat adjustment and more, Bloomberg reported.
The project, internally codenamed IronHeart, is still in its early stages, but it includes Apple’s collaboration with automakers to expand CarPlay functionality to control basic vehicle functions. Apart from apps for music and navigation, CarPlay does not allow you to control any functions of the car itself. A new iPhone-based project could make a difference.
The company is working on technology that will have access to features such as a climate control system, speedometer, radio and seats.
Bloomberg says Apple’s strategy for developing CarPlay is similar to its smart home and health offerings, where the company has combined user information into separate apps on their iPhone. With IronHeart, CarPlay will become a more comprehensive system allowing users to drive their vehicle without having to switch between the Apple app and the car control system.
In addition, Apple is developing its own electric car, so all CarPlay innovations can potentially be used in the future Apple Car.
