Samsung is one of the biggest RAM memory manufacturers in the industry! As such, with the imminent paradigm shift, with the arrival of the DDR5 standard, the South Korean giant is now preparing for a new world, betting everything it has on its new 14nm EUV production lines.
We are talking about DDR5 RAM chips, primarily focused on the world of HPC and IA servers. In turn capable of offering twice what DDR4 chips are capable of offering today.
DDR5: Samsung started mass production! (768 GB and 7200 Mbps)
Therefore, according to Samsung, the new production process will help the company reach levels of speed never seen before in the world of memory. In other words, a value around 7.2 Gbps, which of course it is, means an increase greater than double, since the old DDR4 memory “only” reached 3.2 Gbps.
In addition to the speed boost, Samsung’s new solution will also allow you to increase the total capacity of the systems from 512GB ~ 1TB to 768GB ~ 1.5TB. However, a move to 10nm is expected, which in turn will allow another very significant increase in performance, better consumption, and of course, even higher yields. (Ie a lower defect rate).
While 10nm isn’t enough, Samsung’s 14nm lines allow for a performance boost already mentioned above. As well as an increase in production around 20%, and finally, an increase in energy efficiency around 20%.
Besides, what do you think about all this? Think DDR5 RAM will be a huge hit? Or are you still going to stay on the DDR4 RAM train for a while longer? Please share your opinion with us in the comments below.
