Picodi experts have published an annual humorous “iPhone Index” for 2021 – in their study, the authors compared the cost of the iPhone 13 Pro 128 GB with the average salary in different countries and calculated how long people in these countries must work to afford a new phone from Apple.
The iPhone Index is an annual rating of the ratio of the value of the iPhone to the average salary, compiled by Picodi analysts since 2018. In their calculations, they use open statistics on the size of the average wage and are based on the fact that the average month is 21 working days. The Picodi technique does not take into account differentiation and everything else. But, as has been repeatedly noted, it should be understood that such studies are conducted simply for fun, and their value lies in the mood.
In Ukraine, the official price of the iPhone 13 Pro in the basic configuration (128 GB) is UAH 37,499. As last year, the kit does not include a charger or headphones. Only in France are local laws forcing Apple to add headphones to a box of phones, and Brazil is preparing to issue a new fine to Cupertino for selling an iPhone without charging.
According to the latest data Gosstat the average monthly salary in Ukraine is ₴ 13,997 (₴ 11,268 per hand). It turns out that to buy a new flagship from Apple – iPhone 13 Pro, the average Ukrainian must work 69.9 days (provided that saves all the money earned). Compared to last year’s index, Ukraine’s result improved by 17.1 days.
This is what the iPhone Index in Ukraine looked like in previous years:
And here is the new rating in full:
Most likely, the residents of Switzerland will earn on the new iPhone – in just 4.4 days. The average American will be able to afford a novelty, working 5.9 days, and the Australian and Luxembourg – 6.4 days.
Among the countries where the novelty is already on sale, the worst results are in Turkey, because there the iPhone 13 Pro (128 GB) is equal to 92.5 working days. The second and third place from the end are occupied by the Philippines and Brazil – 90.2 and 79.2 days, respectively
