As you may know, Intel launched today (November 4th) its new generation of Core 12000 processors (Alder Lake-S), which among many other things, bring a new big.LITTLE design, also betting on new technologies such as DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 storage.
But… Will it be enough to shake AMD?
Intel wants to fight back! But AMD is really strong
So, in case you didn’t know, AMD managed to reach the biggest market share of the last 15 years, in the world of x86 processors. This being the second largest market share ever in the company’s history. Interestingly, in the notebook world, AMD managed to reach its biggest market share ever.
These data come from Mercury Research, which points to a market share of 24.6%, an increase of 2.1% compared to the last quarter under study. As such, AMD is only 0.7% away from its highest ever share of 25.3% achieved in 2006 at the time of the Athlon 64 processors.
In other words, everything is going very well for Intel’s rival. Which raises a question… Is Intel a bit late with the Core 12000?
It seems that, despite the processors based on the innovative Zen 4 architecture only arrive sometime in the second half of 2022. Everything indicates that AMD already has an answer for the Intel Core 12000, with the new Ryzen 6000, based on the Zen 3 architecture + with V-Cache.
Besides, what do you think about all this? Do you think AMD’s dominance is about to continue, or has Intel returned to the best possible path to regain its crown and throne in the processor world? Or… Who knows… This is all a transition period and who is right is Apple with its big bet on the Arm? Please share your opinion with us in the comments below.
