STALKER is a unique series of video games that successfully combines RPG and FPS elements, excellent Slavic flavor and English words, complete addiction in what is happening and pseudo-realism of events. A kind of ideal game that has successfully shown itself in the CIS, especially with its possibilities for modifications and a setting that is close to many players. However, she knows and loves herself well abroad as well – which is only the demand for the upcoming STALKER 2.
Speaking of STALKER 2 – although the game is being developed and there are even trailers, its release is scheduled no earlier than 2022. And that’s at its best, because we all know how games can be carried over. This means that we have the opportunity to refresh our memory and feelings in the Stalker itself, as well as try something similar.
Unfortunately, there are not so many games like STALKER, some of the presented top even had to be pulled by the ears in order to correspond to such a proud comparison. And, although you know many of them perfectly well, it was impossible to get by in such a top without their presence.

When the original Metro 2033 was released in 2010, STALKER fans flocked to it almost instantly, as it had a lot in common with the game from GSC Game World.
First of all, the scene of the Metro universe is classic post-apocalyptic Russia. However, unlike STALKER, most of the locations are either underground tunnels or destroyed city blocks of Moscow.
Nevertheless, Metro 2033 has a great atmosphere of tension and horror, so STALKER fans will definitely feel right at home. Besides the first game from this universe, there are also Metro Last Light and Metro Exodus, which take a slightly different approach from the original.
Last Light offers more action-packed gameplay, albeit with similar linear levels and linear narrative. Exodus is more like a classic STALKER with small locations within which the player can perform a bunch of different activities. However, there are quite enough corridor locations in the game.
Fallout: New Vegas

It is impossible to write about post-apocalyptic games without mentioning Fallout. Therefore, if you are looking for a game similar to STALKER, then Fallout: New Vegas might be the perfect game for you.
I agree, Fallout: New Vegas is a full-fledged role-playing game, not a first-person shooter with some RPG elements like STALKER. protocol.
However, if we’re talking about atmosphere, general design and some plot concepts, New Vegas and STALKER are quite similar games. And also – they both are great about mods, so here’s another similarity.
All in all, with all this in mind, it’s pretty obvious why we recommend New Vegas to any STALKER fan. No Anomalies, but you stick there. But there are mutations, hucksters and absolute freedom to kill any NPC that you meet on your way.

Long-term construction, the best survival game of all times and peoples, killer of newcomers, Namalsk and … what other titles are there? DayZ appeared in our top and it is suddenly the top of games similar to Stalker. Unexpected, isn’t it?
DayZ is a game that can be included in any tops at all. But why exactly the comparison with STALKER? In general, let’s get back to the essence of both games – we have the mechanics of a shooter, looting everything that moves, open PVP (if you count NPCs and the ability to calmly eliminate them) and zombies.
Both games are similar as two drops of water, except that again – there are no anomalies and are not expected, although a modification on DayZ in the style of STALKER can be found.
Like STALKER, DayZ lends itself well to modding. The game has released more than one hundred different modifications – from graphical to full-fledged gameplay, which radically change everything.
Escape From Tarkov

Escape From Tarkov is another long-term construction, which was clearly inspired by STALKER. The game has a rather gloomy atmosphere, but the complete absence of supernatural powers, except for the Wild ones, which sometimes do real witchcraft.
The game is still far from complete, despite the long development period. The game has a great multiplayer system in small and medium locations, which resembles the classic STALKER, except with players instead of most NPCs.
Although the game offers, for the most part, a purely PVP experience, the developers promise to add a story mode in the future. It is expected to include history, lore and a bunch of quests.

After the initial cancellation of STALKER 2, some GSC employees founded Vostok Games and developed Survarium, which is a free online version of the well-known STALKER, or at least it was inspired by this game.
Survarium went into Early Access on Steam in 2015, so, as you would expect, work on it is still ongoing. Long-term construction is also quite epic, although not of the DayZ level. As an online shooter, the game contains both PvP functionality and the possibility of cooperative play in PvE format.
Overall, with its emphasis on survival and design clearly reminiscent of STALKER, Survarium will definitely appeal to fans of GSC’s game. However, the game has received very mixed reviews from players on Steam.
This, combined with the fact that work is still ongoing on it, means that Survarium is not a game for everyone.

Another game in early access, another long-term construction. Chernobylite, like Survarium, was obviously inspired by the original STALKER. However, there are some differences in the game. In many ways, they are in the area of the plot.
Chernobylite is still in development, slowly acquiring a storyline, so it can be perfect for those players who don’t mind trying the game even in this, let’s say, “early” build.
For other players who want to see the game already finished, there is only one recommendation – to give the game a few more years and even then, perhaps, it will be ready.

The Borderlands games are arguably some of the most beloved first person shooters of all time. They give such an experience of drug addiction and an absolute lack of understanding of what is happening that there are no people who will speak out absolutely negatively about this series. In particular, Borderlands 2 is the most beloved game in the Borderlands series. It is considered the most interesting part of the series as it has the most content.
The game has a huge world, a bunch of weapons (although you cannot customize them and they drop randomly) and a good storyline. Isn’t it STALKER?
The main differences are everything that is inherent in classic loot-shooters (random drop of weapons and their quality), drug addiction is everywhere and the atmosphere of a holiday, rather than a real exclusion zone. And this is even the case when your character or his friends are suspended in the air by the legs.

The plot is simple: the world was almost destroyed by an asteroid, and you leave the underground storage. Blinking in the bright light of the sun, you admire the scenery for a few minutes, and then you are suddenly attacked.
Wasteland is not the friendliest place. Most of the people you meet in Rage are desperate to kill or capture you, and gradually you begin to understand why.
If you add the term “stalker” to the game, and replace the asteroid with “explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant”, you get a typical STALKER plot. Out of context, the game offers you a huge world, a bunch of weapons and a post-apocalyptic atmosphere. And although this atmosphere is rather closer to Fallout, it is also not far from STALKER.
State of Decay
Release date: 2013
In-store rating: 80% Positive feedback

State of Decay is a paradox game. It has very good mechanics, several options for local zombies, all the possibilities for survival and even some kind of plot, but all this is done so crookedly that the game very quickly gets boring or becomes unplayable.
It is only related to the typical STALKER by the atmosphere and genre of the shooter (albeit with a lot of survival elements), but there are really many differences. Why did I add this game to the top 10 best games similar to STALKER? To be honest, I was forced by the Stalker mods.
It’s hard for me to imagine a person who will pass STALKER without mods. Vanilla Stalker is insanely simple, in many ways even inadequately simple, but with mods for thirst, the need to eat, reworking weapon damage and the search for the necessary cleaning tools, the game becomes much closer to some DayZ or, as you already understood, State of Decay.

Darkwood is a survival horror game that won’t be easy. The game has a top view, the genre is somewhat unusual, it has a bunch of unique mechanics and, in general, it is not very similar to the classic STALKER.However, everyone who played it can confirm how much STALKER spirit is in it, and – exactly the spirit, atmosphere and visual , but not the theme and gameplay.
In short, Darkwood is a masterfully executed survival horror game with great storytelling, visual style and design. The game leaves an unforgettable impression, especially if you play the game at night.
And although there are far fewer gunfights in the game than in the conventional STALKER, you can be sure that Darkwood will keep you on your toes, regardless of whether you are exploring new locations or defending your hideout from unwanted guests at night.
