Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many video game studios have been forced to adapt their workplaces to new conditions, including Remedy Entertainment. Last year, Remedy made significant changes to its company to continue developing video games. One of these changes is that the company is currently adopting a hybrid work model that combines office work and telecommuting.
The company recently announced that along with the introduction of the hybrid model, it will expand in Sweden in 2022 by opening a new subsidiary. It will allow new developers to join the company and help develop new games. According to the information, several developers from Sweden have been working on Remedy for over a year under the direction of Johnny Manga.
Mang said the change of workspace in response to the pandemic reminded the company that “Remedy is a state of mind, not a place in Finland.” Remedy Entertainment also noted that it currently expects to hire up to 25 developers in Sweden by the end of 2022. The company plans to open a new workspace in the first half of next year for employees so that they can meet together in the office when needed, as part of the company’s hybrid model.
According to James Salt, director of games for Remedy Entertainment in Sweden, the company understands that individual developers are different and have their own preferences for how they work on video games. He gives examples of how some days are best spent with people dutifully busy with work, while other days it is useful for development teams to have face-to-face meetings to collaborate, such as planning. Salt argues that the hybrid model is about letting developers choose which method works best for them on a given day.
