Earlier this week, NASA reported an incident while attaching the James Webb Telescope to the Ariane 5 launch vehicle. Since there was a risk of damage to the device, its launch was postponed until December 22 and a special commission was formed for additional tests.
Fortunately, everything was in order with the telescope. The commission found that none of its components were damaged, so preparations for the launch continued as usual.
The James Webb apparatus began to be developed in 1996, and it was planned to launch it into space back in 2007. However, the process dragged on, and as a result, the telescope was assembled only by 2019.
