Although Rockstar hasn’t released a new and original game in this series since 2013, times are tough for Grand Theft Auto. The trilogy, which includes updated versions of GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas, was released last month, and the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of GTA 5 | S will arrive in March 2022. If you are still playing GTA 5 on the consoles for which it was originally created, you may want to consider purchasing the next generation copy when it becomes available.
This is because GTA Online servers on PS3 and Xbox 360 will be permanently shut down at the end of this month until the end of 2021. Now that time is almost here, and if you are one of the few who still play on these platforms, you have until December 16th.
GTA Online players on older platforms will not be able to purchase Shark Cards from September 16th. On the same day, the server for PS3 versions of other Rockstar games, such as Max Payne 3 and LA Noire, was permanently closed. The statistics websites for these two games are no longer there either, and the same fate will befall GTA Online on December 16, so you can take a few screenshots before losing those records permanently.
The good news is that after December 16, your original copies of GTA 5 will not be obsolete. The offline story mode will still be playable, so you can run around Los Santos as Franklin, Trevor and Michael as much as you want.
The bad news, other than shutting down the servers, is that you won’t be able to transfer anything to newer versions of the game. All your money, progress made and property will be lost forever. If you haven’t played GTA 5 on the new platform, you’ll have to start from scratch.
