During an interview granted by Ji-won Choi to the editors of Kotaku, the chief producer of Neowiz wanted to answer the doubts raised by those who believe that Lies of P, the soulslike inspired by Pinocchio, “looks too much like” Bloodborne.
The exponent of the South Korean software house takes the opportunity offered him by the Kotaku journalists to specify that “The cross-references to Bloodborne were definitely not intentional, although we are honored that many players have seen a sort of ‘Bloodborne vibe’ in our Lies of P reveal trailer. The fact that nearly all of our team members are avid fans of the ‘Souls and consequently Bloodborne can only be one source of inspiration for all of us, together with the other exponents of the soulslike genre “.
For the producer of Neowiz, the atmosphere of Bloodborne that echoes in the gothic scenery of Lies of P is but the result of what Choi himself describes as “the obsessive attention to detail that has always distinguished the works of FromSoftware and to which we look to as a major source of inspiration. They are true craftsmen and their work boasts a very high level of refinement, so we want to refer to them as an example of development based on care and quality, especially as regards the improvement of movements and combat systems. From this point of view, Lies of P is more similar to the ‘Souls in aspects such as the level of difficulty and the approach to death “.
Before leaving you to the comments, we remind you that Neowiz’s dark-hued soulslike is expected at launch in 2022 or, at the latest, in 2023 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S. In case you missed it, here’s our special on the story and gameplay of Lies of P between Bloodborne and Pinocchio.
