A few hours ago, news of the relevant content began to spread through the feeds of news agencies, but by morning on the website FTC an official press release was released that confirmed the intentions of the US Federal Trade Commission to seek a court ban on the deal between NVIDIA and Arm. The meeting itself will take place only on August 9, 2022, which in itself calls into question the ability of NVIDIA and SoftBank to complete the deal on the previously scheduled date.

The transfer of Arm to the control of one of the largest companies in the industry, which is NVIDIA, according to American antitrust authorities, jeopardizes compliance with the principle of fair competition. According to US officials, the potential deal will hurt the following market segments, where the products of both companies are presented: active driver assistance systems, network equipment and central processing units for cloud server systems.

In addition, FTC officials explain that many of Arm’s customers are direct competitors to NVIDIA and could be vulnerable by providing their data on upcoming products. Interestingly, the stock market has not yet had time to react to the FTC protest, and NVIDIA shares fell in price after the close of the session by only 0.72%.
