Bloomberg has released a report linked to the possible increase in PS4 production to address the lack of stock of the PlayStation 5, a spokesperson for Sony partially responded confirming that there are no plans to stop production of the old console.
Initially there was talk of one stop in production of PlayStation 4 between the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022, this was reported by reports and insiders in the middle of last year, apparently, however, things have changed and commenting on the Bloomberg article, a Sony spokesperson said that “There are no plans to stop PS4 production. It is one of the best-selling consoles ever and there is always a coexistence between generations.“
Takashi Mochizuki’s report speaks of approx one million PS4 consoles to be added to the assembly line by 2022, however, Sony has not confirmed these data, merely pointing out that the production of the older generation console will not be stopped this year.
According to the author of the report, Sony would like to focus on PS4 as cheap console in the absence of PS5 in stores, a way to keep the PlayStation brand in any case and avoid losing market share to the advantage of the competition. Recall that the production of PS4 PRO has already been interrupted for some time and therefore the company will continue to produce only the Slim model.
