Ubisoft broke the silence around the reboot The Settlersby announcing closed beta testing and a release date for the game. The Settlers is a Real Time Economic Strategy (RTS) eighth installment in the franchise. The game is being developed Ubisoft Düsseldorf on the engine Snowdrop Engine.
The Settlers release date is set for March 17 2022 and will be available on PC from Ubisoft Connect and the Epic Games Store. As for the closed beta testing, it will take place from January 20 to 24, 2022. You can register to participate in the Closed Beta Test here.
In terms of gameplay, The Settlers places a lot of emphasis on building the economy. From gathering resources to building buildings, players will lead one of three factions – Elari, Maru, and Jorn – as they grow in power and influence.
One of the unique innovations of the game – the Engineer is the only civilian unit in the game that can be controlled. Players will need them for construction, exploration of underground minerals for the construction of mines, expansion of the territory and transportation of materials to the specified territory and beyond. In addition to the engineers, landmarks also form an important part of the gameplay: each map has different landmarks that serve as challenge areas that provide different rewards.
Combat is also an important aspect of the game as the units are divided into soldiers, support and siege units. Players can also fortify their defenses by building towers and other defensive structures to guard their territory. In addition to adapting their combat strategy, players will also need to plan how they intend to advance their forces in general, with strategic decisions such as researching improvements and trading resources paving the way forward.
In The Settlers, players can play through the main campaign and explore the game’s storyline, or take part in Skirmish and Onslaught matches. In the campaign, players will face all three factions as they explore three different biomes. Skirmish mode allows players to fight in 1v1, 2v2 and 4v4 matches against other players or AI bots. The third mode, Onslaught, is a one-player challenge mode with preset conditions and restrictions, adding another layer of depth to the gameplay.
As players progress through The Settlers, players can unlock more and more customization options, from the ability to change their profile to the ability to change the appearance of certain buildings and structures. All customization options are purely cosmetic – the only difference that affects gameplay is player skill.
