Sega has registered the new trademark in Japan “Sega NFT“, which as you can guess from the name will be linked to the company’s non-fungible digital token trading platform.
As reported by VGC, the trademark was published today from Japan Patent Office, with a registration request made at the end of December 2021 and includes the official logo, which you can see in the image below.

In April last year, Sega announced it would join forces with double jumpo.tokyo Inc. to develop and sell NFTs. The reaction of the fans, as is often the case when it comes to this topic, has not been the best and just last week it seemed that the company was ready to to step back.
In fact, CEO Haruki Satomi had stated that “nothing has yet been decided” regarding the sale of NFT and that Sega would have evaluated many factors in this regard, also hinting at the possibility of not proceeding further with the initiative if this “were perceived only as a way to make money “.
The new trademark, however, could suggest that Sega still intends to carry on its strategy regarding NFTs or at least just enough to better evaluate the reactions of the players and the market.
It must be said that Sega is not the only Japanese video game company interested in the world of NFTs, blockchains and cryptocurrencies. Recently, in fact, even the CEO of Square Enix has hinted at future investments in this sense, while Konami has put up for sale the celebratory NFTs to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Castlevania.
