20th Television is developing a Real Steel series for Disney+. Debuted in 2011, the film is in turn inspired by the 1956 short story “Steel” by Richard Matson.
Film director Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum, Stranger Things, Loose) is executive producing the robot boxing show. Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future, Forrest Gump) will play the same role. Thanks for the push is the premiere of the film on Netflix a year ago and its success among users of the streaming service.
Now the studio is looking for a screenwriter, but there is no information about the possible cast at the moment. Real Steel stars Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly (Lost, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, Ant-Man) and Anthony Mackie (Captain America: The Winter Soldier). Levy had previously expressed a desire to direct a DreamWorks sequel to the film.
